Description: TIC PERMEABILITY APPARATUS 

As Per IS:2720 (P - XVII).

Co-efficient of permeability is evaluated using Darcy's law which states that the rate of flow of a liquid through a porous medium is directly proportional to hydraulic gradient across it, subject to the conditions that the flow is steady, laminar and the soil is saturated.

There are two methods for laboratory determination of permeability

i) Constant Head Method

ii) Variable Head Method.

The first method is for sandy soils and the second for silts and clays. Consists of gunmetal mould 100 mm dia. x 127.3 mm height, 1000 ml volume with collar and Drainage base plate, drainage cap, Metallic clamping ring, two porous stone for base and cap. Dummy plate, set of three glass stand pipes approx. 6 mm,10 mm, and 20mm dia mounted on a wooden board, length of 3 meter rubber connection tube with pinch cock. Over head tank made of G.I. Sheet with three outlet at bottom and-inlet port on top.
